On one of JeremyG's posts a while back, he wrote about Google referrals, and I told him that one of my referrals was entitled 'naughty girls nite out' and he rather appreciated that one, it seemed. The things that I wanted to write about were just simple and innocent topics... but it's always easy to find a 'dirty' correlation. Who's dirtier, me for writing it, or you for reading to find out more? It's funny, because the Urban Faery posted a similar statement that told how she got more traf...
Spring Break is definitely a different experience from that as a student to that as the overseeing adult. Due to the particular workings of my daughter's private school, instead of just one week of holidays, we've been 'blessed' to have two whole weeks of time away from school. (It is a year-round school scheduled on a seasonal break timetable. Due to her age program, she's been off since March 3rd.) Now, if we had a shitload of money to fall back on, we might have possibly spent this week in ...
You know, after reading several blogs devoted to sharing life experiences, nominating particular bloggers for different reasons for a Joeuser award ceremony that will probably never be held in a person to person format, it got me thinking about a similar sort of gathering: that of a Joeuser reunion. After we got the boring details sorted out, like the actual reunion committee, decision of where to hold the event, cost, hotel rooms, music, bar, etc., we get down to the actual social aspect ...
Kole is six. She's a smart six-year old, but hasn't quite mastered the art of reading. She's got the love for listening to stories, but it's getting more difficult to to find books that are just right for her. Any book that reflects her current aptitude for reading is too 'babyish', and any book with the kind of storyline that she's interested is just too damned long. We've tried our hand at Harry Potter, Lemony Snicket, and other books with more of a plotline, and she can listen well too them...
I have been following the blogs that feature welfare dependiency, poverty, and other related issues and responses with great interest. I'm a little disappointed that rarely has dominant governing systems and their impact on certain minority groups have ever been made an issue. What I am about the write has a lot to do with race and I speak from a Canadian perspective, and from the imposed-upon race. Mind you, these issues can be applied to every other Aboriginal/Aborigine/Apartheid group that ha...
A couple of weeks ago, I had problems logging into Joeuser. The problems continued up until a couple of days ago, but all seems well, now. I solved my own personal blogging crisis by signing up for another blog site, and it's interesting to see the pros and cons to both sites. I registered at LiveJournal, and was surprised at the amount of people who were a part of this giant community. In fact, the numbers kind of scare me, as well as how easy it is to identify people who blog there. You ...
I love 80s music, but don't have a wide collection of retro music. I'm not big on hitting TheTrash on 80's nite, simply because the patrons look as if they were born in the 80's only. Yet, there's this great 80's station that I've found through Windows Media Player that's just great. It's like listening to radio of my day. I remember when OMD's If You Leave (Don't Leave Now) was on my local radio station for over a month and a half at number 1. Give me Michael Jackson's album Thriller, a...
Blame it on the weather, but during warm, sunny days, I've been spending a fair amount of time just hanging out downtown, getting a glimpse of life. Maybe it's the bright, vivid colors of clothing that were unavailable for viewing during bulky coat days, but I've also been spending a fair amount of time looking in the female direction. I don't know if it is genetics or not, to be attracted to brightly colored things, but color me surpised to be checking out anybody at all... that's not us...
For the past couple of days, Kole and I have been spending an insane amount of time using the University computer labs. She's on spring break right now, and so we have a lot of free time to kill. Generally, we've been staying up way too late, leaving the labs after 11:30pm... but we've been having a great time using their high-speed/warp-speed computers. We've been checking out new movie trailers and one of the movies that we are both looking forward to seeing is 13 going on 30. It's kind of a...
Most of the bloggers on Joeuser are great, but the occasional few that are around really make me feel like calling it a day. It's pretty depressing seeing their posts and the negativity they produce, but its getting to the point where it's hard to just say that they have their own right to their own opinion. It is becoming a hate-filled site, unfortunately. I suppose there is not much that I can do about it, except complain in my own, non-hate blog. I welcome opinions that don't necessarily...
When I was young, I guess about 9 or so, I wanted what all the girls were wearing... white hi-top running shoes called Sparx. I begged. I pleaded. And eventually, after many months of whining, was taken to the local department store to pick out my shoes. There was only a few pairs left... in pink. I had to have them, though. I went home with them, wearing them straight from the store and the next day went to school. They laughed at me. Made fun of my new pink Sparx. Just so that there was ...
It's funny/unexpected/nice how, as a single parent, I get offers of babysitting services from friends that I know well enough, but haven't let them into that part of my life. Generally, if I go out on my own, it's when my girl is already being looked after by my parents or her auntie. So, these people that I know so well, are apart from my day to day life with Kole. I generally don't take anyone up on offers to babysit outside of my family. I have a several girlfriends who are also raising kid...
It's about that time of year... the new season brings forth the opportunity to look back and make decisions about the future that lies ahead. I have been doing some thinking, but I'm not going to fool anyone, I've been doing a lot of burying my head in the sand, too. I gave myself some time between studies, to decide if it was right for me to continue on. My GPA is high enough where I could feasibly make that jump into even higher learning, but what it all really breaks down to is the is...
Sometimes I wonder if a feature like Instant Messaging or an email function would be of benefit here at JoeUser. You know, some posts end up being pretty personal and I'd like the option to respond in a more personal way accordingly. Then, I reconsider, knowing that these options are available outside of this site. Thing is, I try to keep JoeUser away from my life outside of the Net... although it is getting more difficult to do. Does anyone have times, maybe while sitting in traffic, or...
Not too long ago, I posted a comment regarding satisfaction in blogging at JoeUser. I alluded to being 'not completely' satisfied quickly from the top of my head, and now, in retrospect, want to make ammendments to that comment. The things that I am not happy about JoeUser are strictly from a National point of view. I live in Canada, or, in my eyes, Turtle Island. The Anishnaabe in me feels both a part of Canada and the US since there was no dividing lines and the continent was imaged as on...
