I actually wasn't partying, but I did go out Tuesday night and on Wednesday I just came to the realization that I'm not a kid anymore. I need sleep. I need recovery time. I'm just bored by the whole bar thing. I need to get a different life. I was stupidly thinking that I was back in my teens, and could go out for 2 nights in a row. No deal. I was at home, Wednesday night by 11pm. Decided to catch a movie instead and call it a night. I'm not Superman, you know. My girl went away for a cou...
Take a look at Mack's blog... I'm too lazy to go back and link it up, but it was entitled "Fed Up". You do the work. I guess I'm feeling a little "Worn Out" by this evening's (morning's?) line up of articles, and just want to write about something that doesn't have to do with politics, rights, freedoms, etc. It's funny how unsuspecting bloggers can be a part of your life. For instance, today, I thought about Dharmagrrl, and what she's been posting about lately. She's been in my tho...
My daughter is supposed to go away for a couple of days. She's supposed to stay with her grandparents for one evening then go out of town another evening to visit more relatives. And I know that I shouldn't apologize, but I was looking forward to it. Tuesday, I was going to go to play basketball with my Chicks With Balls team, and then out for a couple of pints to rehash the moves of the night. Then I was going to meet my greatest friend Mike, who is back in town for a couple of weeks. He's ...
Let me start out by saying that I once heard someone say (repeatedly) that people who purchase lottery tickets are simply paying a Stupidity Tax, and I am not entirely disinclined to agree. But, I would just shrug it off and walk to the cornerstore and get my ticket while picking up a pack of rolling papers for him. (Yeah, I think he was paying a Stupidity Tax as well, but he had all kinds of arguements to back that up.) I digress. So, of course I picked up a lotto ticket for tonight's 5 ...
I was reading through other people's blogs today, and came across JEPEL's latest , which is about the launching of his new blog, in his french language. It got me to thinking about the possibilities of me doing the same thing, in mine. Well, I think the possibilities for me to do it, is virtually none. I have taken Ojibway in school, but like many other languages, if you do not converse consistently, you lose it. I was adopted into a non-Native family as an infant, and raised in a predomin...
There is nothing more fun, in my child's eyes, than to go to a dinner and social, and then dance to the Big Drum. We went to an Elder's Gathering this weekend and it was great. We had a good time dancing, and there were 4 drums there, so there was a lot of time to move and meet people that I haven't seen in a long time. Winter's a slow time for pow-wows; it's the summertime when it all starts kicking in. This weekend's social was great though, and well attended. The best thing about it was wa...
For some people its shoes at Payless, for others it's powertools at Home Depot. Big boxstore shopping, while prompting some angst about not supporting small store owners has its few charms. Yeah, price is one, but in my case, its the total numbers of my interest that boggle the mind. Homer Simpson may sigh, "Donuts..." but I exhale in satisfaction when I see the rows upon endless rows of stationary, pens, printing cartridges and post-it notes at the local Business Depot. I don't know what hap...
First off, I'm not about to start that endless debate about smokers vs. non-smokers and the right to do it. Yes, it's an awful habit, there are harmful effects to smoker and non-smoker alike, and I know it is a waste of time, money, and energy. It's not cool. It's downright stupid. Having covered those bases, I'd like to have my say by making a few points (and it ain't nice, considering that this is pointed at my fellow smokers): I hate people who bum cigarettes. I don't mind giving them ...
It's January 31st. In a few short hours, I will be able to reflect upon last month and realize all the resolutions that I had made a month ago were severely neglected. Ignored. Shunned. So, I don't know if there is actually any point in trying to hop on a wagon that left the area such a long time ago, but I feel that I should start making a few improvements in my life. After all June is only five months away. Huh? Yeah, I know. I don't know how shallow this is, but this year, I want to feel...
It was the first thing that threw her off about him. She realized that everyone had their own idiosyncrasies, their own particular oddities. She tried hard to be non-judgmental. She was a pretty girl though, and she had dated a lot. Sometimes all it took was finding out that Chris saw nothing wrong in wearing white socks with sports sandals, that part of Mike’s library contained Star Wars novels and that Steve really enjoyed watching reruns of Saved By The Bell. She hated feeling shallow bu...
Tonight is the night of the 24 Hour Project/dance program. Last night at 8 pm, a group of directors got together, picked out some music, and went their separate ways to choreograph their pieces. At about 8 o'clock this morning, they met a group of auditioning dancers, and selected people to then perform their vision. At 8pm tonight, the curtain will rise and the audience will get to see what everyone was able to accomplish. Scary as all hell. I've done a 24 Hour Project/acting and it was inten...
My friend Jay, during the holidays, says to me, "Nic, you're into movies. Maybe you know this one... nah. Forget it. It's too obscure." So of course, I light up and say, "Go ahead. Make my day." Well, I was thinking about this movie. It's got vampires. From outerspace. The setting is in England." Of course, the exact title and approximate release date flashes in my mind. (In case you're interested, it was Lifeforce, 1984/85) I saw it once. I wasn't particularly interested in it. Yeah, so? ...
