I'm never going to get used to this bloody shift...

I think I've made a crucial error by signing up for the nightshift at work. Yes, it's more money. Yes, it is, in many ways, an easier job than day scheduling. But it's bloody hard on the body. I can't eat, I can't sleep, and I've missed a period. And, since there's been no joy for what seems like decades, something's definitely going on.

I like it better, though. It's hell on my social life, but it reigns in my partying nature, so I have saved some coin. I've gotten to know a lot of other people at work that I only bumped into once in awhile during day scheduling.

I hate to admit it, but I'm a bloody useless adult. If it weren't for my sister and her sometimes useful overbearingness, I'd be up shit creek. She's great at balancing the books, and has worked out a functioning budget for me based on my income. While she may raise the occasional eyebrow about what I think necessary expenses are, she doesn't deny me.

In all, I get daily coffee, the occasional pint, the occasional pack of smokes, and the occasional purchasing opportunity of new reading material. Yes, that is all it takes. It's taken trade-offs though. My daily coffee is granted so long as I forego they buying of regular priced cigarettes. It's rez smokes all the way for this girl. And only one pack a week. Sigh.

I'm socking away money for the future, and for my student loan. It feels weird to have a weekly review of my expenditures, but its working.

I was asked out by someone quite unexpectedly. I blushed, stammered and didn't exactly agree on a date, but he had a pleased grin nevertheless. I get the feeling that he thinks he has the upper hand, now.

Silly boy.

I updated my Favorites List. Deleted some on the following criteria: off with their heads to those who haven't posted a blog since August. Added others because I've either just discovered them, have always meant to add em and have just forgotten them, or have caught their blogs by looking at other people's favorites lists. I'm not surprised to see that recomendations made by writers I like are good reads as well.

And that's all for now.

Ooh, I remember those night shifts! I worked 11-7 for over a year and it sucked big time. Lemme tell ya, 11-7 in a jail can be NO FUN, that's when the worst of the worst come in for sure. I remember going home and crashing and sleeping like the dead until about 10 A.M and then **DING** I was wide awake! I felt like crap, but was awake. Finally around 6 P.M. i would get my good sleep in, but I never did feel 100%.

Anyway, good luck with it! I hope you do manage to get used to it. I guess I'm just not a night person.

Nights are bloody hard. I don't know what day it is, I never know when I should be eating, and I wake up the same time you say you did, between 10 and 11 am... someone told me it takes 3 months to get used to a shift like this. I like the work better, but my body's not liking it much at all.

The job at night compared to dayshift is completely different as well. Talk about people not having any self-control. I've been called so many names, threatened and screamed at... and as if it makes a difference anyway. It's not any of it matters once the conversation is over.

"I hate to admit it, but I'm a bloody useless adult." No you're not! You are entertaining me right now and making me feel important by remaining on your favorites list. That is quite useful in my book!

Best wishes for getting yourself straight with those crazy work hours.

Wow, thank you for adding me to your list. I love reading your blogs. Right now I am catching up on all my fav's .

I know a few people who work those night shift and still have a hard time.

Crazy question...On your days off do you stay up like when you are at work or do you sleep night hours. I guess that would be a part that would make it hard.

However, congratulations on managing a budget, that is most definitely an adult thing to do!

Yikes...sorry to hear. Don't have any words of wisdom except to say hang in there and to give an offer of a cup of coffee if you ever need one.
