I grew up listening to the 'greats' of the 70's.

Yeah, for some reason my parents thought that the great music of the decade then was Chuck Mangione, Barry Manilow, Linda Rondstat, and the Bee Gees. When their record collection got passed down, there was little to cheer about.

My daughter, I think, is starting to feel the same way about me and my music. She hasn't said anything negative about the kind of music that I do listen to, but she is really starting to pick out music that she wants to listen to, that I don't.

She seems particularly fond of Eminem, a lot of hip-hop artists that I have no clue who they even are, and gasp bloody Britney Spears. There's nothing sadder than seeing my little girl singing 'Hit Me Baby One More Time'. I think the only other rivals in patheticness is when she asks me to turn up Shania Twain and Celine Dion a little louder on the radio.

When I was a teen, I would blast Metallica at home. I didn't particularly like Metallica, all I knew was that I wanted to listen to something different than what I grew up on.

I'm wondering, with that in mind, if I should really start cranking out the country music, or even switch channels to the talk-radio and beat her to it. At least, then, it is still my choice.

Oh.. I know my daughter will be the same way. i listened to "death" music when I was a teen. Trouble was- I think my Dad actually liked it. At least I know that he liked Metallica. He said that their music was like a heavy metal symphony. If you knew my Dad, you would think all that is *really* weird. You're a real Mom when your kids start hating your music
