So, I was super-pissed at my sister last blog, and tonight we've managed to spend a relatively decent night together. Go figure.
We went out for beer first (Well, I had the beer, she drove) and then, we decided to rent some movies and go back to her place and eat fattening foods and bliss out on teen-angst chick flicks. I was actually kind of pissed to start with... she had arranged childcare for both of our kids and had led me to believe that we were going to go out on the town. But, of course she bailed with the 'why don't we just do something together kind of deal... which meant that we wouldn't be doing much of anything that I considered to be fun and worth getting a sitter for... but I digress.
After grabbing some pizza slices we rented two movies, 'never been kissed' with Drew Barrymore and the fantastic Michael Vartan, and we also rented 'Pretty In Pink" with the wonderful James Spader, Andrew McCarthy and the notsowonderful Molly Ringwald. And before I say anything else... what was so great about her anyway? Was there any guy out there who thought she was all that?
If we look at the two movies and compare, obviously 'never been kissed' was the better movie of the two. The ending was just right... who wouldn't want a kiss like that, from a guy like him? In 'Pretty in Pink' the only way that it could have ended satisfactorily is if Andie and Blaine just faded away to let the real movie begin, focused solely on the exploits of the badass Steff. Duckie had style, but Steff had it all. And mygod, Andie's dress was pure ass. The only good thing about the movie was the soundtrack.
Looking at the two flicks led to a question: is American teenage highschool life anything like it's all made out to be on film? Do schools really have proms? In Canada, we had dances in the school gym, but there was no Prom King/Prom Queen, and all that crap.
So our evening together was all right... a quiet night, that's for sure. But it definitely beats screaming out accusations at each other.
