threatening people they don't like with TOS Violations
Published on November 8, 2004 By crimson In Blogging
(I guess the only reason why I'm not posting this in the Forums is because it seems to me that this is where the trouble lies: you can have an opinion and post in your own blog all you want, but as soon as it hits the forums, it's a valid reason to persecute someone else for their opinions.)

I never really gave a shit about Manya because, aside from posting a few somewhat attractive pictures, the content of her articles weren't that interesting. What was interesting was the reactions from other blogger's about her blog. She garnered enough of a reaction to have others want to do some digging, and of course, baiting that turned a pretty boring blog into a big thing. So, after a few innuendos, visits from other bloggers that proclaimed not to appreciate her style of blogging, and continued visits from same bloggers, a mountain was made out of a molehill, or two molehills/not quite mountains that may or may not have been really hers, and shit goes flinging wildly, and Manya gets busted. Busted, because she violated TOS, which included chastisment over having an article including Little Whip's name.

That's just balls, my friends.

Wisefawn has an article written containing her name, but do you think that blogger is going to get exiled? Nuh uh... because Wisefawn is thisclose to getting exiled herself, for writing her own opinion. I'm not saying that I agree with the stuff that she writes all the time, but I support her efforts in at least, offering a differenting opinion than the majority here. Correct me all you want, but there does seem to be a pretty good link here... if you aren't well liked, then you certainly get enough attention thrown your way to end up getting the boot, because everybody rushes to the scene of the crime to see what's going down.

Blah... I don't know why I'm even writing about this, except to say, that all this blacklisting, baiting, and bellowing about TOS violations is getting a little tired. At least, to me. If you don't like an article or an articles contents, write an article of your own about it to get it off your chest and here's the clincher... be prepared to recognize that you may be in the wrong. I certainly may be in this situation, but at least I haven't shut myself up about it, too worried about backlash to not express my opinion about my concerns.

Wisefawn, keep writing. Even if you don't post in the forums, other people know where you are at. Manya, I guess you've been voted off the island this time... I'm surprised you lasted as long as you did. Nicky, you're getting caught up again. Take a few deep breaths. And just breathe. Know that, just because you have a difference of opinion it doesn't mean that you'll get the boot. That there may be more going on than what you think you know. That, in the end, you're here to blog. To enjoy the company of other bloggers. And to try to have fun. Everyone.

The only article I can see with Wisefawn's name in the title is one in support of her view that the election was stolen again somehow. Since it's not a flame against Wisefawn, I don't think it really runs afoul of the rule.

On the meat of your article, though, I tend to agree that people could stand to develop a good dose of "shut up and ignore it" instead of "denounce it and get into a big fight".
But I have to disagree with the idea that having a different opinion in and of itself puts you on the wrong side of the site; I think what really gets you burned is not knowing how to behave in a respectable (or respectful) manner when you first get on. (Then again, dealing with others respectfully is in short supply all over, not just here.)

Too many people either can't or just plain don't know how to disagree with others in a calm, reasonable manner and instead have to get the old flamedrooler going. (I would say flamethrower, but that implies that somebody else is the one that ends up getting burned.) If you are one of those who know how to disagree civilly, you are going to become a respected blogger around here. If not, then you're either one of the herd or, if you get enough exposure, you're one of the exiles.

I couldn't agree with you more Nicky. Sometimes this place feels like high school all over again. I think an inherent flaw with people today (not just on JoeUser, but in general) is that they get too involved in scandal. When I see these stories here, I click on the link out of sheer morbidity, take a look at the content/comments shake my head and move on...unless I have a smart-ass comment to chime in with. If I wanted social network scandal, I'd go back to school.

Nicky, I only noticed this because of the modblog reference, but wanted to let you know that I agree 100% plus some! Way to say what I was thinking!
