bringing back the eighties, once again...

Who could forget Duran Duran? If you were a female, particularly over the age of 12 during the early 80's, you knew the name of each Taylor, and you probably thought that Simon was the hottest. Hell, a lot of guys thought that he was the hottest one, too.

I saw an ad for their new album Astronaut due out sometime this month. It includes all original artists, which means that Roger has either run out of money and needs some more, or is getting over his distaste for the press. Or whatever. I don't have hopes, high or otherwise, for the success for the new Duran Duran release. I'm just interested in seeing who got fat, whose got the most wrinkles, and who should have remained at home. I'm definitely not expecting musical genius.

There's something a little depressing about it. I mean, it's been twenty bloody years since they were at the height of their success. I don't know, but twenty years ago I was a bit embarrased about who I thought I was at the time. I feel exactly how I felt when I heard about VH1's Bands Reunited 'highly anticipated' television show. Some people who look forward to it, are true fans who are interested in hearing about what these musicians have been doing with their time since their last hit. For the majority though, it's designed for people who get off on tragedy. And, after admitting that I want to see the worst of Duran Duran, its a pure shame if I tried to deny that I was one of them. What is it about the quest to see morbidity at its finest? Why are some of us eager to see the downfall of someone else? I guess another good question is why do I equate another chance at the brass ring with disaster, anyway?

Damn my negativity. Go Duran Duran.

Grrr...

I was just about to write an article on Duran Duran.  (Seriously...)

Now I will have to wait a few days for this one to cool down.

One of the points of my upcoming article will be how I listen to them happily now, but I couldn't stand them when I was a kid.

I saw them on t.v the other day and they look really good. They have all aged like a fine wine.
Yes they look older and some have wrinkled a little but...Damn they still do it for me.
I have heard one song of theirs that they have on the radio called "sunrise" it is a little different than what they were popular for in the eighties but I think it is pretty catchy.
I really like them though so maybe I am being biased.(spelling?)

I was just about to talk about sunrise -- There's a morning show on channel 7 (Australia) called Sunrise who have adopted Duran Durans Sunrise as their theme song. Rage has it at about number 35 in the top 50.

I was just listening to them this morning! I'm a second-generation Durannie. I remember hearing them in the 80s ("The Reflex" was my first exposure to them). Then I kinda lost interest, being too young to be really into them. And that time, I decided Madonna was my favorite pop star so I mainly listened to her.

In 1997, I rediscovered them again via "The Saint" soundtrack. They have an excellent track on there called "Out of My Mind." Ever since then, I've been a fan.

Though there are many bands that have a special place in my heart that aren't recording anymore I know it's really for the best. I lose a lot of faith in music when I look through the concert listings to see bands I love that hit their peak a decade or two ago playing some casino in the midwest.

And yet...I'm with ya...Go Duran Duran!

I guess a lot of people are interested in what Duran Duran are up to: articles in newspapers, entertainment weekly, and clips on tv entertainfo shows all seem to be featuring these guys. I haven't heard any of the new stuff, but I'm sure its only a matter of time. I don't think that there's any way that they could acheive the kind of popularity that they used to have, but I hope that they make a good show of it.
