bringing back the eighties, once again...
Who could forget Duran Duran? If you were a female, particularly over the age of 12 during the early 80's, you knew the name of each Taylor, and you probably thought that Simon was the hottest. Hell, a lot of guys thought that he was the hottest one, too.
I saw an ad for their new album Astronaut due out sometime this month. It includes all original artists, which means that Roger has either run out of money and needs some more, or is getting over his distaste for the press. Or whatever. I don't have hopes, high or otherwise, for the success for the new Duran Duran release. I'm just interested in seeing who got fat, whose got the most wrinkles, and who should have remained at home. I'm definitely not expecting musical genius.
There's something a little depressing about it. I mean, it's been twenty bloody years since they were at the height of their success. I don't know, but twenty years ago I was a bit embarrased about who I thought I was at the time. I feel exactly how I felt when I heard about VH1's Bands Reunited 'highly anticipated' television show. Some people who look forward to it, are true fans who are interested in hearing about what these musicians have been doing with their time since their last hit. For the majority though, it's designed for people who get off on tragedy. And, after admitting that I want to see the worst of Duran Duran, its a pure shame if I tried to deny that I was one of them. What is it about the quest to see morbidity at its finest? Why are some of us eager to see the downfall of someone else? I guess another good question is why do I equate another chance at the brass ring with disaster, anyway?
Damn my negativity. Go Duran Duran.
