So, it's not a holy day. And even if it was, we'd probably be spending it doing the exact same thing: doing laundry that should have been done earlier in the week, hanging out at the zoo and maybe catching a flick at the theatre. But, even though it is Thursday, it feels like a Sunday for me, because it's back to work tomorrow. Bleh.
I'm going to a wedding on the real Saturday. Some friends of mine are throwing caution to the wind, and are getting hitched at a place called Market Hall. I've lit a show there once, and it's a fantastic place for a wedding to be held at. (They were going to do a backyard ceremony out on the reserve, but I think they tried to put up some barriers, at least. Hehehe.) Market Hall is being used as a performance space in my city. A stage, stadium seating, and a huge area to dance, and set up circles of tables. Plus a fabulous invitation list that includes many of my friends. It should be fun. But back to bitching about work...
Scheduling for my company should be a piece of cake. Basically, you enter your name and code number, pick a calendar week and you can see your work schedule for about a month. If you want time off, you just click your cursor onto the appropriate date and in less than one minute you recieve a notice stating weather or not your request has been denied or granted.
In theory, the system is great. No going to your supervisor to beg for time off. You can even swap shifts with other co-workers if you want. But right now, the system sucks. See, the program is designed for 500 employees. We have new training groups in with approximately 150 to graduate in four more weeks. The problem? We only have about 125 employees to work with right now. Any shift swap is denied. Any shift request off is immediately denied. And the real pisser is that the schedule changes from week to week. Sometimes even day to day.
They say things will get better. That adjustments can be made, and that it's not set in stone. Well, after putting in request after request to have this weekend off for the wedding and having request after request denied by both computer and head programmer, I'm probably going to have to call in sick. All for arrangements that were made before the summer even began. The worst thing is this; I know it can reflect badly on me as an employee, but at this point I am sick. Sick of it all. I'm ready to defend my actions if they dare to question me.... bring it on.
