I've been blogging since December 24th, 2003. I've been blogging at JoeUser the longest, but I also have another account elsewhere, that is much more satisfying to rant at on a personal level, but isn't as much fun because of the lack of interaction amongst bloggers there. Or rather, I have yet to step forward and introduce myself, and so far, don't really anticipate doing so anytime in the near future. But there's things that I have learned at both blogsites that I'll share, simply because I can. And also because I haven't made an unordered list in awhile... sometimes it's neat to pretend that I'm computer-savvy, although in all honesty, I'm not.

  • blogs are considered diaries, journals, places for personal writing, but when you blog on the net you are writing for an audience unless you actually use the Just Me viewing audience selection. If that isn't the case, then think before you write. Ask yourself, is this really important to share to just anyone? Will my words hurt anyone else? Am I being a complete dick about this?

  • Be funny, don't try to be funny.... it's painfully obvious when you do.

  • Don't be afraid. You're opinions are valid whether you are male, female young, old, or somewhere in between. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise. But do think before you write. Don't just talk out of your ass, unless of course, the topic is about talking out of your ass.

  • There's nothing wrong with using a dictionary once in awhile. Or checking to see if your fingers are still on the home row instead of yjod.

  • If you've noticed a trend in your writing, chances are everyone else has too. Don't be afraid to break free from the ordinary. Shock us. Make us think!

  • Don't worry about criticism. It comes with the territory.

  • There's nothing that I enjoy more than reading about somebody else's stupidity. Or awkward moments. Or fits of rage. It might not be your thing, but I like it.

  • Having said that, I really do like hearing about your life. The mundane, the typical, the basic everyday thing. Just not all the time. Again, mix it up a bit!

  • I think a lot of us are here for the interaction. It's great reading the blogs that get over 50 responses that asks something of everyone. I don't know how to do it, but if you do, keep it coming.

I'm relatively new to the whole blogging thing, so reading points of view like that is really helpful, and I will take all that on board, Thanks!
