"I take a 3 1/2 but an 8 feels so good."
-Olive Oyl to Popeye- referring to her size in roller skates.
Some of the best lines come from cartoons. And then, there's some that are direct from life.
I love being an auntie. In some ways, it's better than being a Mommy because you can spoil your sibling's child rotten and give them back when they start to act up. Not like with your own child. Then, you just have to deal. Skylar, my niece, is 3. She's a sweet little girl, and I think the thing that I like the best about her is having conversations when we are alone. She's got a funny little voice... deep and nasally for a girl. She's very witty... more so than Kole. Kole's funny and has a pretty warped sense of humor, but Skylar really has the gift for saying things straight on, without cracking a smile. And she knows that it's funny and she knows that it kills me even more if she doesn't acknowledge it. Instead, she just looks at me in a way that says 'beat that'. And I can't. She was walking down the stairs the other day, and it looked like she was going to fall midway down. My aunt says in a flustered voice "Oh, Jesus!" and Skylar looks up and says matter-of-factly, "No, it's just me, Skylar." and gives her a shake of her head. And then, gives me that look again.
Skylar gets called a lot of different names, as does Kole. Sky's nicknames are Skybird, Skyer, Birdy and Birdbrain (from Kole). You'd think that the last one would get her angry, but she seems pretty pleased about it. Maybe because we all holler at Kole to cut it out so much. Kole's pretty pleased with it, too. Kole gets Kolie, Kola, Koko, and Spud. I named her Kole particularly because I didn't want her to have a name that people were going to shorten or change. Silly me.
Kole's first day of school went fine. She came home tired, dirty, and missing a sock. She also came home with a folder and homework. Isn't that a little too young? Grade One?! My baby's growing up.
My first day off without her in 18 days went good, too. I did some laundry, did some cleaning and went out for some coffee. I was sure that I was going to want a nap later on in the day, but went against the urge. I even changed my 'my favorite blogs' list. Welcome, new friends... I was going to do this for awhile now, but the MyAccount option has been unavailable. If you are not familiar with any of the blogs listed, check them out... pretty good stuff, indeed.
It's funny, I hardly ever post blogs like this... little ramblings of my daily life, step by step. It sounds kinda boring in retrospect, but hell... it is a Monday.
