can music make or break a movie?
Published on February 18, 2006 By crimson In Blogging
I woke up in the middle of the night, trying to place the music I was hearing in my mind. It was the music from the movie "Halloween" and I was, in turns, amused, and a bit apprehensive. I've written about mind music before: where the hell does it come from? And why the hell does my mind feel the need to wake me from a dead sleep to play this little tune?

The music from "Halloween" is definitely creepy. In fact, I'd state that it played a good role in the movie, almost as an individual prescence alongside Jamie Lee Curtis and the man in the mask who played Michael Meyers.

Any other memorable scary music out there?

The music from "The Exorcist" comes to my mind. When ever I hear that I get chills.

Yep, those are both plenty creepy...I'd also add the theme music from The Omen.

I have been trying to recall particularly scary music. I can't. I must not watch enough scary movies.

But I totally agree. Good, tense music can totally add to a scene. Likewise, though, a complete lack of music can also add to the tension, we have become so accustomed to having it there.

Oh NickyG, good, appropriate music absolutely is crucial to the soundtract of a movie!

Not that I remember, however if one thinks back to the days of silent films they used to have a lady ( or man) play the
piano for the movies. The kind of music played had to fit the situation.

I had the pleasure of listening to an elderly lady play the piano while I stayed in the nursing home after my knee replacement.
What's the big deal you ask? Well she used to play piano for the old time silent films. I was told that although her mind doesn't
seem to be too sharp anymore, she can play, and did, the piano just wonderful.
